Sir Humphrey Davy and Dr. William Clanny each developed improvements to mine safety lamps for detecting the presence of explosive methane gas. They used an enclosed space for the oil wick flame and a wire gauze to dissipate the heat of the flame so that it cannot ignite any methane present in the mine (it really works this way).

For domestic use only, these are not intended as working safety lamps, but are beautifully made for non-miner customers and have the essential look and feel of the real thing.

They are heavy, beautifully machined solid brass and  glass. Very wind resistant.

The gimbal (wall mount) allows for the lantern to be mounted  to any vertical surface, great for yachts as well.

 These are real authentic Victorian-era, British Coal Mining Company replica lamps with 160 years of years of history behind them. There's a great deal of hand work in both of these. A sheer delight.

Use ordinary lamp oil or kerosene for fuel.
